According to international coverage the proportion of mothers dying in childbirth or due to the aftereffects of giving birth is in Afghanistan the highest in the world. That means that in Afghanistan every day 50 women are dying in childbirth or due to the aftereffects of giving birth. That is why we took measures to minimize this problem by training the regional midwives.

The realisation of this project has already started in Jalalabad in the East on September 1st, 2003 and till the end of November a total of 50 women in three groups will be trained to become midwives.
